Western Region - California

by Phil Miller | Dec 18, 2017

Central California has been extremely dry so far.  This has allowed growers to do extra ground work in preparation for the spring.  Flood pre-irrigation is underway on many fallow fields.  A few late planted fields of corn have been harvested and overall harvest is considered complete.

In the west we have also had a very good alfalfa planting.  Due to commodity prices mainly, there has been a very large amount of alfalfa put in.  This will tie up some corn acres for the next few years and future alfalfa plantings will be low until these acres cycle out over the next five years.  We are continuing to collect prepay and early orders for 2018 corn.
