First Steps In My LG Seeds Internship
This week I took a big leap personally and professionally as I started my first steps as the Marketing Intern for LG Seeds. I was not sure what to expect since this is my first internship, as I just completed my first year at Iowa State University studying agricultural communications and animal science. To be honest, I grew up on the livestock side of the agriculture industry, so I knew from the get-go that this summer was going to be a huge learning experience for me. Buckle up with me this summer as I travel the country and work with other LG Seed Interns, Sales Account Managers, Technical Team Agronomists and Marketing Professionals.
My first step as an intern for LG Seeds is a lot like the first step for a farmer during planting season here in the Midwest. At the start of my week, my first step was to drive out to Westfield, Indiana with my mentor, Laura Vsetecka, the Marketing Communications Coordinator for LG Seeds. Just as any good row crop farmer does, he or she checks over the equipment and makes sure everything is ready for the planting season and is able to get the job done. As for my ride to Westfield, Indiana, I asked all sorts of questions to try to prepare for my jammed packed summer. This six-and-a-half-hour drive with Laura (thank goodness my dad blessed me with the talkative genes) helped me to figure out my role within the company and got me even more excited to start.
The second step as a farmer is one of the most crucial steps of all: figuring out what type of seed to plant in each specific field and what the plan for the rest of the growing season is. My second step was to go through training, learn about all sorts of projects I will be doing this summer, and of course, meet as many people with LG Seeds as possible. This step builds the foundation for the rest of the summer for both farmers and I. As I am writing this, my view out the window is the highly traveled gravel road by farmers. I keep getting sidetracked by all the farmers driving by with their cultivators, discs, planters, and even sprayers. I am sure the farmer who is driving that piece of equipment is just as anxious and ready to get on with the planting season, as I am to hit the ground running and learn all about LG Seeds and of course meet farmers and dealers throughout the country.
As my first week comes to an end, I traveled back home and began planting the seeds for my internship. Follow along with me this summer as I watch my seeds grow into an amazing professional and personal experience. Next week I will be traveling more of the Midwest as I ride along with some Sales Account Managers and other Interns to capture some great pictures and videos of the planting season as well as meet some new people.
