Getting Started with Mix Matters:

Once you download the Mix Matters app or open the website on your computer, you can begin inputting your fields. Fields may be brought in automatically from an Advantage Acre account. You can also use the Add Manually option to input one at a time by CLU (Common Land Unit). Or, you use the Farm Market ID (FMiD) option to add the majority of the CLUs associated with your farming operation in a few seconds.

What information does The Mix Matters Tool need from you?

To get the most out of the Mix Matters Tool, the Field Management section asks for you to input your goals, challenges, and field management practices as they apply to the majority of your fields. For example, this includes:

• Yield goals
• Trait packages 
• Tillage practices/planting timing
• Maturity range
• Nitrogen timing and rate
• Fungicide use and management
• Tile drainage or irrigation use

Putting your knowledge and experience to work:

After you input your goals, challenges, and practices at the farm level, the Edit Field Information section quickly helps you refine your management information to be specific for each field. Only the data that varies by field needs to be revised, making this a quick section to complete as well. Tap, revise, then save for all edits. Once your edits are complete, the Mix Matters Tool will offer recommendations for all your fields for both corn hybrids and soybean varieties.

What information does The Mix Matters Tool provide for you?

To offer field-specific recommendations for the best hybrids and varieties, the tool will consider soil drainage class and surface texture from SSURGO (US Soil Survey), along with your field management goals, challenges, and practices. 

For an extra boost, the Mix Matters Tool also considers a long-range rainfall and temperature forecast for all your fields for the upcoming crop season. This soil and weather information is imported automatically from Advantage Acre. 

By considering rainfall and temperature (amounts and timing), along with soil texture, drainage insight, and field management, the tool has a much more complete understanding of every field, making recommendations a breeze.

How Does the Mix Matters Tool Create the Best Recommendations for You?

You’re probably wondering how all of this info really works together to create your personalized seed recommendations and plan for the upcoming year. 

For each field, the tool analyzes all these soil, weather, and management factors. It compares each variable to LG Seeds product scores, which are created and managed by your local LG Seeds Agronomist. Each product is then ranked for each of your specific field needs, starting with maturity range and trait offerings. Your top personalized recommendations will be listed in the “Seed Insights Section” of the Mix Matters Tool.

Along with your specific hybrid or variety recommendation, you’ll also see a seeding rate specific to each product. All Seed Insight recommendations may be revised, and replacement products may be chosen from a provided alternative list, still ranked in order for each field. Finally, competitive products can be added to the seed plan in place of LG Seeds products. You can choose up to three products for corn fields, and two for soybean fields, then set the percentage of the field you wish to be planted.

The Reliable Recommendations Are Complete. What Next?

Now that you’ve chosen from the recommended products, the Mix Matters Tool will provide a “Seed Mix Seed Summary” that displays your hand-picked products by trait and total units needed. Seed Plan reports may be customized to include a cover page with all field boundaries, report by seed, report by field, individual field maps with all management information, and product profile sheets. Seed Plan reports may be printed, emailed, transferred to Advantage Acre, or converted to an order with the OrderUp tool.
