LG Stories | Caleb Pokorny

Pre-Commercial Research (PCR) plots play a vital role in the LG Seeds product line-up. Area Agronomy Manager Caleb Pokorny not only manages a team of over seven Technical Team Agronomists across the Western Division, but also keeps a close watch on how these new products are performing.

“A big part of my role is product selection and training agronomists on new products,” says Caleb. “I enjoy being involved in the PCR process because it is interesting to get a first look into how these products perform in a commercial setting.”

“There are a lot of factors that go into advancing a product into the commercial setting. We are especially interested in new products that can fill a hole in our line-up. The PCR team rates these products on a variety of different elements: emergence, early vigor, green snap, disease, and yield,” says Caleb.

Spending the morning rating a PCR plot near York, Nebraska for bacterial leaf streak conditions, Caleb seemed to know everything about each hybrid’s parent lines, past performance, and future potential.

While Caleb may have expertise and passion for his work on new corn products, his role as Area Agronomy Manager requires management skills as well.

“In my role, I have to do a lot of people managing,” says Caleb. “My team has a lot of experience. I am really excited about working with them! LG Seeds has got a great group of agronomists.”
