LG Stories | Steve Crafton

Twenty-eight years of working with AgReliant products have made Illinois TTA Steve Crafton an expert in the field. From hybrid research, to test-plot programs, to product development, and now agronomy, Steve has built a vast base of knowledge about LG Seeds’ line-up.

“Product knowledge is my strength,” says Steve. “I’ve always been involved with the products. I know the backgrounds and characteristics of the early mid to late maturities.”

His experience shines through as he scouts test plots in July 2018. A group of SAMs, trainees, interns, and dealers starts to form as Steve travels from plot to plot.

As Steve points out differences between hybrids such as ear height, canopy density, pollination, disease resistance, stalk strength, and kernel test weights, some of the group take notes and others soak in the information.

“All the hybrid numbers and characteristics are stored up here,” says Steve as he points to his head. “But you ask me to remember someone’s name, and it’ll go in one ear and out the other!”

“What makes LG Seeds’ products unique against our competitors is their versatility across a wide range of acres. We keep a focused line-up; we don’t strive for a bunch of niche hybrids. We want hybrids that can perform across multiple soil types and environments,“ says Steve.
