The 2019 growing season has been a challenge to say the least.  As crops are growing this summer, I often hear the question of “What’s next?”.  Whether that be disease, insects or other pests. With Advantage Acre, we have a data-driven tool that can help answer those questions.

The Weather, specifically Degree Days and Precipitation information, is one of the first places to start when it comes to answering those tough questions. During the 2019 growing season in Central Michigan, the weather model calls for continued above-average precipitation for the months of July, August, & September.  Weather patterns like those can lead to an increase of leaf diseases in corn such as Northern Corn Leaf Blight, Grey Leaf Spot and Tar Spot. In soybeans we could also deal with whitemold. If the Weathertrends360 predictions hold true, a fungicide at tassel in corn and at R3 in soybeans could be beneficial.   

Advantage Acre can also show a predicted growth stage for your crop, which is helpful when planning to scout for foliar diseases. The image below shows the growth stage timeline on corn, which can help identify times that are ideal for fungicide applications and foliar disease scouting.
